So the next time you're in Boise, be sure to pop in for a scone or one of their comfort-food classics, and allow yourself to be enveloped in the warm embrace of this Boise tradition.

This is what I consider comfort food. I ordered a Dutch baby scone which was incredibly decadent and not at all what I was expecting. In my eyes a scone is a dense biscuit-like thing with a touch of sweetness. Meritt's version is light and fluffy and reminds me more of a funnel cake then an English scone. And it's far superior as far as I'm concerned. Powdered sugar and lemon on it was a bright spot in my morning. I also had the breakfast bowl with sausage and didn't even need to eat lunch as I was still full for my breakfast. I can't wait to try more of their items.

Have been coming here for years. I am happy to say the fresh (German) scones are still delicious and the main draw. This nothing fancy, down to brass tacks great food and wonderful staff keeps us coming back. Small, quaint and Boise tradition is worth the trip. Next time you are in Boise, do yourself a favor and pop in for a scone.

I've been eating Breakfast here for decades !! Since the 1970's Bacon is quality Hash browns real and a good size serving..eggs are always cooked the way I prefer...it's so good... I can't remember ordering anything else other than their nationally known Scones !! If I known I'm going to a restaurant for breakfast I choose Merritt's

The service here is top notch. Don't go if you want fancy. But if you appreciate good stick-to-your-ribs food, this is a great greasy spoon. Loved the scones.

Amazing food.. especially chicken fried steak and scones. Waitresses are adorable and friendly. Highly efficient. Wonderful down home breakfast spot with large servings.

Brunch was fantastic today. Merritt's is our go to breakfast joint. The scones are so good! The bacon today was salty and crispy, the perfect crunch. My eggs were perfectly cooked and yolky. Enjoyed a great meal with great toons from the juke box. Service is always on point. Another great breakfast from our local greasy spoon.

This place has been here for 50 years with not any improvements which sometimes we like, the rustic good 'ol mom and pop place. The staff is friendly and we got seated promptly, it is close seating and very noisy. Our server Keileh was super nice, I got the Texas style French toast, sausage patty, 2 eggs. It came out hot and was fresh. Recommend this place

This place rocks. They have been operated by the same family for almost 50 years. Limited hours to 6 am to 3 pm to focus on their customer base. They used to be open almost 24 hours but then all the drunks sobered up there and the reputation got hurt. It now operating as a breakfast and lunch place. This is a place where you can find real Idahoans, not the prissy, mask-wearing invaders from Seattle, Portland and San Francisco. I got the taco omelet which is a huge omelet that is stuffed with ground beef and covered with lettuce and cheese. It comes with salsa, sour cream, your choice of toast and hash browns. It is the meal of the day for me. See the photos as proof of the quality of Merritt's food. Merritt's is clean and well-kept inside. The building exterior and parking lot are a disaster, but that is the charm. It scares off most of the foodies and other self-absorbed personalities who are too plentiful in today's society. The servers are attentive and helpful. They give seniors a 10% discount without making the senior request it - classy. Ignore the reviews from the morons who come here expecting British scones. They get their underwear in a bundle over the definition of fried pastry - typical liberals. This is simply the best restaurant in the Treasure Valley for breakfast.

Merritt's is famous for their "scones." Just so you know what you're getting when you ask for a scone, here's how Yelpers described them, both positively and negatively: "The scone is not a scone" "[N]ot your typical British scones but more like funnel cake but in a pancake style." "[S]cone, more like a beaver tail" "What I got was an elephant ear (fried dough). They do NOT have scones." "They're scone is what I'm used to seeing and referring to as "fry bread"" "[W]hat I have always known as Mormon scones, a sort of hybrid of Indian fry bread and elephant ears" "The scone is more like a donut or churro" "Deep-fried pizza dough would be a better description" "[C]ross between a cookie and a muffin" "[J]ust a funnel cake you'd get at the fair" "[F]ried bread with lots of sugar on it, more like a donut than a traditional British scone)" "[S]heet of fried dough the size of a plate" "[L]ight and airy similar to a churro." "[N]ot like any scone we had tried before." I had the Strawberry-Cinammon Sugar-Whipped cream "scone" and it was amazing. Only 2 servers working a packed Merritt's and it took them forever to bring water, take my order and bring my food. Kinda felt bad. The interior was very old school. Also, the amenities are wrong in case that's a make or break issue for you: masks aren't required and staff aren't wearing them.
